YCN- Royal Ballet submission.
Submitted to YCN.
My reasoning behind deciding to do this brief was that I wanted to tackle a problem that is out of my comfort zone and would require me to have a different approach with my work. I was initially very daunted by the idea of collaboration and creating a campaign. But I found as the process went on that this was just a confidence issues and eve thing went really well. I thought by doing a ballet brief that this would help me be a more versatile illustrator. However I admit that when first approaching this brief I fell into the stereotypes of the ballet that the royal ballet want the extinguish. So after undergoing research into the different ways in which ballet is used and gaining an understanding into how much of a physical endurance it was I was able to ditch those stereotypes and try and figure out what I was illustrating. I also really wanted to work with a graphic designer as type and compassion are big weaknesses for me and I wanted to work with someone who was confident with this. From having a group of just two people I think made the whole process much easier and a lot less stressful. communication and organising meeting was easy compared if we had been part of a bigger group , and it was much easier to take each others ideas into consideration and discuss them to make sure that we have equal input into the collaboration. Dividing tasks up as well was much simpler and even thought the work load was probably more than if we had been in a larger group we where still able to set out what we wanted to achieve.
I have found the process really beneficial and can see how collaboration can be used as a tool for enhancing each others independent practises whilst also creating good work. I would defiantly consider collaboration in the future as I find it a really effective way of working , especially on big campaign briefs and you get the share skills with others and like wise they can help you with skills that you as an individual practitioner may lack in.
