http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22000973

  • Emergent service class. - I took the test myself and this was the result I got . It states that the people in this group are young, enjoy a cultured social life , rent their houses - almost 90%. Which dose make sense but looking at the responses of others who took the test it is obvious that society as a whole could have said that there are embedded prejudices towards social class.

  • Elite:
  • 'I'm a member of the elite. the country's properly gubbed of that's the case. I can't even spell cavyar.'

  • Established middle:
  • ' I'm uneasy about taking this class calculator. If i'm middle class, i'll fill a 4x4 with organic pesto and drown myself.'
  • Technical middle:
  • ' I'm technical middle class, which means I shop at wait rose but then feel guilty. '

  • New affluent workers:
  • 'Not sure how to make tiny pension cover cost of latest heating oil bill, but am new affluent worker . ' apparently'.

  • Traditional working class :
  • 'Despite being public school and oxford, I scored as traditional working class. Dimond Geezer too ?'

  • Emergent service workers :
  • 'It's time to get some new friends, not just postal workers and farmers.'

  • Precariat:
  • ' came out as precariat , despite going to the theatre. Let nobody tell you culture is elitist.'

  • 'Classes are bundles of economic, cultural and social capital that convey advantage for individuals and families from one generation to the next.'
  • French sociologist , pierre bour dieu first developed this approach in 1984. Suggested that there are different types of capitals which give people an advantage in life.
  •  ECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND SOCIAL.
  • There aim -' We wanted to find a detailed ways of measuring how much economic cultural and social capital people possess.'
  • 161,458 people look part in the survey. 90% of participants described themselves as 'white'.'
