Final To Kill a Mockingbird cover.

I wish I started the cover much earlier !! I had a very good understanding of the context of the book and issues that surround it but I don't think that I have take full advantage of this. However in the time I had to make the cover I was able to add some context to the image, although it is not obvious.  During the Civil right movement the protestors would have these placards around the necks in support of the movement. I remember seeing this when reasurching for 504 as it shocked me that the had to put signs round there neck stating the obvious so the people with in a  integrated racial hatred society would see.
I really like the stuctrure of the type in this image so I carried the idea across on to my own type.
The strength of communication within this image using just words is really interesting and this was the idea I took across. Playing around with scales , size , colour and structure. Having the first two letters of the main words and integral part of the cover helps with coming away from the classical images of Mockingbird and approaching it from a different perspective. I could have made a stronger concept of the colours. Having them mixing together shows a spectrum of colour and this could have worked and linkedin with race and how we are all alike. But the colours I have used are all primary colours. This was an link to child hood and a reference to the children the book revolves around by again i'm not sure how clear this is.

Having the smaller elements of detail still helps i think to give the books its gracefulness, because the way harper lee tells the story us graceful and respectful. But it can be said that the vines/ branches are dipping into the stereotypical imagery.
