Yann Kebbi

Yann Kebbi is a very versatile within the materials he uses. For example coloured pencil , etching and monotype. But it's particularly Kebbi's monotype prints that interest me. There feels to be real raw emotion behind these pieces and way the artist style lends itself to the process, gives a very paintley technique. It is very gestural and figurative, the colours too help to explain the artist opinion almost and the emotion they want to portray.

I feel like this image could be one of fear. The body is bent down and the head is through a hole in the floor and is within a single colour, which dose suggest hidden, confined.  Above the colours are mixed and this gives the impression that it is more open space.
Like how Kebbi doesn't used traditional colours that are associated with things like the body and dark confined spaces, but is still able to communicate there intentions. Particularly with the enclosed space the yellow dose communicate dark and that particular yellow is unpleasant so it plays on peoples emotions.

It seems already like an emotional image. The line quality almost looks like scratch marks and uneven so could have a less pleasing aesthetic but this really helps to get the emotion across. It's is rugged , gritty and raw.
