I think that after doing all this research I really need to narrow it down. I have loads of ideas off run with but it is picking one in which to follow that I am finding hard. I have an idea based on the perspective that Harper Lee took in to kill a mockingbird which is to show the issue from the perspective of a child. As shown in a image in my previous blog post , 1 in 9 african american children have a parent incarcerated in the american jail system today. Having a child in the images could allow me to make my work have a more softer and sympathetic feel to it? If I follow this I can incorporate other features like the Black Panther movement, How could a symbol like the black panther relate to the child? Another issue is the mass incarceration, this could be shown through repetition and the composition of this pattern. But could focusing on mass incarceration and a child perspective been too much? Am I better just using the child?
In order to solve this problem I need to take a step back from printing, start sketching and think about how this idea could work. And I really need to pin point what I am trying to say.
During the last crit this image was reseved well and I think it is because of how the image resinates with others. It is not a complicated image and playing with scale seems like an effective way of communicating. I just need to go away and draw up some more ideas.
