Visual narrative- artist- Faye Moorehouse.

The Cat Ladies of Czechoslovakia.

Faye Moorhouse approach to this book is very simple, Moorhouse technique allows her to create  rough shapes with ,what looks like just one stroke, e.g. the old women head scarves. The rough cats of the end page as well has a nice, messy, spontaneous pattern to it. The artwork in the book is all in ink. This medium is used really well by the artist, there are good contrast of light and dark tones, but they let it have free rain, the odd bleeds of ink within the illustrations gives you an idea of the technique but also the hand of the maker. The hand made feel. this is a really nice feature however, more mediums I don't think would have gone a miss. More texture on the old women's faces could make them look more old and evil. I also really like the way the faces and expressions have been drawn, they communicate clearly and the sharpness of the lines on the nose give a real insight to the character. Simple depictions of people like this is something that I would eventually like to try to achieve in the final artwork for my book.
