Development of book artwork.(developing character- Frank.)

Using white printing ink rolled onto black paper I was able to create this texture, which works well I think for showing old wrinkled skin. I cut out different head shapes from this , trying to find the best one.
I also repeated this process of creating the texture but with back ink on white paper to make the birds and dog cut outs, which I really like because of the smaller more intricate shapes the connect to one another.

I tried to used soft coloured pencil to add some more tone and block colour to the heads , which worked okay , however using it in section of the face works better then all around , allows for certain features to stand out from the rest of the face. A good next step could be trying to making the heads bigger and adding more detail into them? Having small heads like these is restrictive, they could have more detail.
