Article Uk prisons - ' Holding child inmates in solitary confinement against UN torture rules.- the independent.'


  • Soiltary confinement cause ' considerable distress and psychological damages.'
  • Some children have been driven to self- harm due to the server emotional distress they are put through.
  • Article 6 of UN convention against torture states that government must prevent any ' any acts of curse , inhuman or degrading treatment to punishment'.' from occurring hands of officials.

  • 'The confinement of prisoners for 22 hours or more a day without meaningful human contact.'
  • At least six teenage boys under the age of 18 have been held in solitary confinement way over the stated time for the isolation. ranged from weeks to months.

  • Tim Farron -' These are some of the most vulnerable members of our society and their time in the younger offenders institutions must be focused on education and rehabilitation. I urge the government to investigate these claims.' 
  • Spokesperson for the Ministry of Justices - 'When young people in custody are putting themselves or others at risk , segregation can be used as a last resort for limited periods of time when no other form of intervention is possible.'
