Case study notes.
Pushkin Press:
  • Attention is given to there designs, which begin with the logo ' Lyrical, Expressive and playful, it has a sense of movement and fluidity helped by the curvaceous lines and the ligature of the two P's.'
  • Pushkin press was founded in 1997, and publishes essays, novels, children's books and contemporary writings.
Penguin Random House:

  • There aim: is 'to foster a universal passion for reading by partnering with authors to help create stories,  communicate, inform and entertain.
  •  They collaborate with authors at every stage of publishing process- from editorial and design, to sales and marketing and production and distributing, 
Penguin:
  • What they look for in a cover:
  • Target market- who do you want to pick up this book.
  • What do you want to tell the buyer about the book. What king of genre is it`?
  • You need to have read it and have an understanding about the book enabling you to communicate message  and ideas.
  • Making sure the authors name and title are readable. 
  • Identify key symbols and Motifs.
  • Try to create something that would capture someones attention , make a strong impression. 
Folio Society:
  • What they include in there special additions books:
  • Head and tail bands: decorative bands.
  • slip cases
  • Bindings: Complex design, all books are sewn in 16 page sections high standard.
  • Printing- ink weights is considered.
  • Illustrations -  from wood cuts, paintings, collages, pen and ink and digital.
