Wild dog(drawing from reference): I chose this image because I like the line work that is encompassed into it. Also the way I have used dark blocks of shape along side these details , they work well together and make an interesting image.
Wild dog - quick sketch: I like this one because it was a good experiment in trying to use expressive bold lines to try and show the shape, and it actually helped me to get a better idea of the shape rather than the detailed one. Mainly because I was focusing on the shape, rather then the detail within the shape.
Terry the cactus( drawing from observation)- With this observation I tried to focus more on translating the shapes and details, rather then drawing each individual part, because I was working with a very complicated object. I like the use of different tools, ink and brush , ink and quill and brush pen for the bolder lines. They all work really well together as they add really nice contrasts of line.
Drawing for reference , you are working from a picture that someone else has taken and composed, and it is useful for getting basic information about the object you are trying to draw . However it is very restricting sometimes ether because of the angle the photo was taken or the lighting. This is where it differs from drawing from your own observations, you can control the angle and lighting , and you also get a 360 degree view of your object , which you cannot get or change with a photograph.
- I found today particularly challenging, especially when it came to drawing from reference. I found it hard at first to try and translate what I was seeing onto the page because the image was at angle , so it was hard to try and get the drawing at the right angle and draw to to proportion. So I prefer drawing from observation mainly because you can alter the angle and I felt more confident with translating it and am much happier with the outcomes.
- Making multiples of drawings of the same thing was a good thing to do. I allowed me to experiment with the way I was drawing it ,but also I could change what I was looking at so in one I could have drawn the hole object , but in another I could have just focused on one section. I enables you to get a better sense of how the object works.
- The materials that we had to used today I enjoy using so I work with ink and brush a lot, but trying to draw accurate images with them was hard without doing any light pencil out lines before hand. So that is something that I need to practice at. However with this material it allows for a wide range of line work and you can create a variety of image that can be quickly draw or have time taken over them with tones.
